HOW YOUR INSURANCE COVERAGE CAN MAKE YOU SICKER
Unfortunately, many of the cutting-edge treatments and cutting-edge doctors are not covered by insurance coverage. When you read about illnesses like Candida, Epstein Barr, Lyme's Disease, Autism, Neurotransmitter Imbalances, Elevated Cortisol Syndromes, Mercury Toxicity, etc., you will be quick to find out that the doctors who are most qualified to treat these problems are not covered by your insurance plan or company. Often, they do not take insurance as full payment because the insurance companies don’t cover them in the 1st place.
There are some exceptions like Travelers Insurance company, Aetna and United Health Care which in the past have offered policies that cover holistic healing. About a third of American adults use some form of complementary or alternative medicine, according to reports by the National Center for Health Statistics. We spend more than $30 billion a year out of pocket on everything from fish oil supplements to acupuncture. However, despite those billions of dollars spent annually on alternative medicine and complementary treatments, most of these services are not currently covered by the majority of health insurers.
The majority of those out-of-pocket expenses — $14.7 billion in the most recent year studied — went to complementary and integrative health practitioners such as chiropractors, acupuncturists, and massage therapists. We spent another $12.8 billion on natural products, and $2.7 billion on self care approaches, such as wellness books and homeopathic medicines.
Despite billions of dollars spent annually on alternative medicine, most of these services are not currently covered by the majority of health insurers… health insurance companies still regard most alternative techniques with uncertainty.
This lack of coverage often drives people to seek medical help by practitioners who will take their insurance but are not actually qualified to address the patient’s condition. Example, if you had a problem that was improved by the correct diet and nutritional supplements, would you rather see a clinical nutritionist who has over 2000 hours of study and certification in that field or a medical doctor who on the average studies a total of 15 hours of nutrition?
As an example, if someone gave you a food card that covered the majority of your food expenses but the only place you were able to eat at was McDonalds. You might use that food card occasionally, but if that was the only place you ate (simply because it was cheap and covered by that food card), you would get sick and overweight. It would be bad for you and you would use your own money to pay for more nutritious options.
When it comes to your health, you should be asking the question, "Is this doctor qualified and competent with a track record of success?" Not, "Does my insurance cover this?"
The neglect of the insurance system to cover practitioners trained in alternative medicine will force you to seek the WRONG care and not get well!
So the question is, are you ready to change your health and your life? Or go see an unqualified doctor that will give cookie cutter treatments proven to make you sicker...but hey, at least your insurance covered it.
